What was a typical week like in your internship position?
Considering my internship with Protiviti was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, my typical week involved virtual Microsoft Teams meetings and Zoom conferences with my team in the Internal Audit and Financial Advisory department. Our typical meetings were in regard to current and upcoming client projects. Unfortunately, the internship was shortened so I did not have the typical intern experience with the company. However, I learned how to utilize a lot of different softwares and expand my knowledge immensely during my short period with the company.
What do you enjoy most about your current position?
Something I enjoyed most about the position is that no two days were the same. Every day could be a different task and I found it to be very enjoyable and engaging.
How did your coursework help you in your internship?

Altogether, my coursework taught me how to prioritize certain tasks which further allowed me to utilize my time in an efficient manner during my internship. Additionally, I learned how to communicate effectively in a virtual environment given that this internship took place a semester after we began virtual learning.

I located my internship position through the University Career Fair.
Advice for students:
My internship advice to students would be to expand your horizons and consider positions that will allow you to develop and expand on your current skills. This university specifically gives students such an amazing and rare opportunity to network and explore diverse interests (even if they’re outside of your major), and I’ve been lucky to experience this first-hand the past 3.5 year. I would not be where I am without those opportunities.
The University of Maryland has offered me once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. Take advantage of the Career Fairs, University Career Center, BSOS Undergraduate Blog, and the university staff who are more than willing to assist with helping you develop professionally as an individual. Internships presented to me by the university allowed me the opportunity to explore different fields and industries and further decide where I felt most comfortable pursuing the next step of my life post-graduation.
