What was a typical week like in your internship position?
At Waldorf Trading Inc, my day to day tasks typically varied depending on the time of the month. Towards the end/beginning of the month, I was required to start reaching out to the clients regarding payment collections and ensuring that everything came in on time. Throughout the entire month, I was also responsible for handling any customer concerns that came up and if I couldn’t solve it myself, I would have to point them to the right direction.
What do you enjoy most about your current position?
What I enjoyed the most about my position was the fact that I got to work with a wide variety of people. I not only got to work with those in the organization, but also the outside parties involved. I really enjoyed that I got to work all different aspects of the business and I will say that is an added benefit to working with a small business. Everyone has their specific roles, but at the same time everyone works together to get things done.
How did your coursework help you in your internship?
My coursework has taught me things like working in a team, time management, and also excel proficiency. This has been a fundamental teaching for my internship because in my assistance secretary position I was constantly working with others and had to meet very specific deadlines. Excel proficiency was also a fundamental skill that helped in my internship because it was a program that I worked with every day at work.
How did you locate your internship position?
I located this internship through networking with the local business owners in my hometown. I had worked with a couple of them during my time in high school, but the position that I was the most interested in was only offered to those in undergrad. When I worked in high school, I left a good impression and it was amazing to see that they felt I would be suitable for the job.
Advice for students:
My advice to any student looking for an internship would be to make sure to know what they want to get out of their internship. This way the students look for internships that will help them get the most out of their career goals. Another piece of advice would be to network with those you work with, so that way if there are any further opportunities, they will be able to keep you in mind.
