Major: CCJS
Minor: International Development and Conflict Management
Class Year: 2023
What was a typical week like in your internship position?
In a typical week at my internship l attend several meetings throughout the week related to the different campaigns we are running. For example, some of the different campaigns are making accessible more affordable textbooks, zero hunger, and climate change. I also dedicate several hours out of my week and participate in phone and text banking where we try to recruit more people to the club and internship. Outside of the meetings and volunteer work, I work on my specific project which is zero hunger and I conduct research with other organizations that are more international based and work with them to come up with strategies to fight hunger in developing countries.
What do you enjoy most about your current position?
What I enjoy most about this position is that I get to work with other student leaders that are just as dedicated about making a difference within their community like I am.
How did your coursework help you in your internship?
All my research projects throughout my classes in the past have helped me in my internship because it has taught me how to conduct real and effective research on a topic and how to analyze that information to come up with effective solutions. I am an international development and conflict management minor student (MIDCM) so combining my knowledge on that topic with my skills in research makes my work all that easier and more interesting.
How did you locate your internship position?
I am a part of the weekly BSOS email newsletter which sends out a bunch of information and opportunities and this specific opportunity was on one of the newsletter that I read for that week and it caught my eye so I applied for it!
Advice for students:
Some advice that I would give for students is definitely get out into the community and build your resume. Whether that is volunteering, having part-time jobs, being captain of clubs or sports teams. All these experiences will help build your resume and help you to stand out when applying for internships and jobs in the future.
