What do you enjoy most about your current position?

I enjoy the interactions with my students and the teaching-learning dynamics in the classroom. My students come from many different countries, bringing their unique experiences with them, I enjoy learning about their experiences regarding English and adjustment to a new country.

How did your coursework help you in your internship?

My coursework greatly impacted the quality of my internship. The knowledge I gained from my multicultural psychology and experimental psychology helped me to feel confident in the classroom. The knowledge I gained from my counseling psychology class helps me while I tutor students in one-on-one. Overall my coursework helped me to think more about ethics and professionalism while I interact with my students.

How did you locate your internship position?

I found my internship through the VolunteerMatch website. However, students who are interested in interning with WEC can just use the WEC website to register instead.

Advice for students:

I advise interested students to consider patience and work ethics regarding adult international learners. Also, knowing a language and speaking it is one thing, and teaching it to others is a whole different thing. Do not say, "OK, I am a native English speaker, so I will be good at this," because even many native speakers can struggle if they do not understand how to deliver the language to people who do not know it. Attend the WEC training sessions and learn all the details on how to become the best teacher at WEC :)
