What was a typical week like in your internship position?
A typical week in my internship is creating blog posts, Instagram posts, and Instagram reels. On Monday, my boss sends me different articles to base the posts on and we come up with ideas together to outline our posts for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I will create the posts on Monday night and Tuesday and write captions for the posts. My boss will approve the posts or make edits and I will change them as needed. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday I will post the different Instagram posts that we created and monitor them to see which posts did best.
What do you enjoy most about your current position?
I enjoy working with my boss the most. I am learning how to work with other people and take feedback constructively. This internship has helped me gain more communication skills and many life skills that will be useful to me in the future. I also enjoy learning more about how to give clients advice. The posts I create are therapy-based topics with many solutions to issues. By reading articles on these topics and writing about them, I am able to learn how to handle situations and give advice to clients in my future career.
How did your coursework help you in your internship?
My coursework has helped me understand many of the psychology topics that I write about in the blog posts I create. I took a psychology relationship course and much of the content I create is based on couples therapy. While my boss guides me when creating a topic to write about, I am doing research on my own. My coursework allows me to use my own knowledge that I have obtained when writing about many topics.
How did you locate your internship position?
I located my internship position through the psychology internship guide website.
Advice for students:
One piece of advice I would give to students applying for internships is that you may apply to internships and not hear back right away. It is good to apply to many internships in order to keep your options open. However, don't take it personally if an internship site does not answer you; these organizations have many students applying to the position so they may not even get to your application. This can be a frustrating and stressful experiences, but it is so worth it in the end, and you will find the place that is right for you.
