What was a typical week like in your internship position?

My company provides digital marketing and branding services to small and medium sized companies. My job is to manage the engagement with the client and manage our internal team members in order to drive the project forward and produce results for the client. About 1/3 of my time goes to meetings with clients, team members, and my manager. About 1/3 of my time goes into planning timelines, managing the task board, messaging team members, and planning agendas. The last 1/3 of time goes into creating strategies and processes to execute for the client.

What do you enjoy most about your current position?

I really enjoy the high level strategizing and problem solving. I like to think about complex problems and come up with solutions. I also really enjoy working with my manager who is the founder of the company. I learn a lot from him and we get along well. Lastly, I love to see our team deliver results and make the client satisfied.

How did your coursework help you in your internship?

Any coursework that was related to human behavior, motivation, tendencies, etc. is valuable to my work. I have to engage with people on a daily basis. I have to satisfy my clients and my manger. i have to encourage and lead my team members. In order to do this successfully, I need to be able to connect with these people and understand how they function. This is not something that always comes natural to me, but my knowledge of psychology from school has proven to be useful.

How did you locate your internship position?

I was put in touch with the founder of the company through a friend of mine. He had previously worked at the company. That was about 2 years ago. I have worked for this company ever since. Both myself and the company continue to grow together - it's been great.

Advice for students:

Don't pursue money, pursue the experience, the learning, the skills, and the relationships. These things are all much more valuable in the the long term. And above all, pursue something you enjoy doing.
