Job search tips: Determine where you fall into the job search steps below, how much time/when you will complete the sample tasks each week, then, using the resources below, outline an action plan.
- Review job paths related to your major and consider which are a match to your skills, values, etc.
- Explore job roles via networking and establish search alerts on industry-related job boards or aggregate job boards.
- Use the information above to determine the required skills for the industry and prepare a targeted resume, specific to each position.
- Launch your search using at least two of these search strategies. Networking tends to be the most effective!
- Research your industry to identify interview questions, trends in the industry, industry keywords (to be included in your resume), etc.

Meet employers at an upcoming career fair or attend a "how-to" workshop in person or virtually. Alumni are welcome to attend most UMD recruiting events, so if you plan on launching your search next fall, mark your calendar to attend the large UMD Career Fair.

Career Resource Toolkit
Access many career exploration and interview prep tool resources through Handshake. The University Career Center manages this resource and job search platform.
Seniors also have access to LinkedIn Learning and the Tom Manatos job database for three months or more post-graduation.
Appointments
All current undergraduate BSOS majors may schedule a 30-minute appointment for an in-person or virtual meeting through TerpEngage. After you schedule your appointment, complete these steps to make the most of the meeting. Don't have time to meet before you graduate? No worries, graduating seniors will have access to schedule appointments with the Feller Center throughout the summer.
